A landscape image is printed with the long edge across, a portrait image with the long edge upright.
With a frame on a paper print you can expect an additional approx. 2.5cm (1 in) space around the print. A canvas print needs no frame, so its size on the wall is the size listed above.
What is a canvas print?
The image is printed onto canvas and stretched over a wooden frame. There is no glass and no separate picture frame, and it arrives ready to hang straight on the wall. Canvas has a soft matte surface, so it holds up well in bright rooms where a glossy paper print would reflect the light.
Should I choose paper or canvas?
Paper holds finer detail and deeper blacks, which suits the smaller sizes and anything with tight star fields. Canvas suits the larger sizes and rooms with a lot of daylight, and it needs no framing. Both are printed from the same full-resolution master file.
Can I see what a print looks like on my wall?
Yes. The print simulator puts any image from the gallery on a wall at its real size, in a living room, corridor, kitchen or bedroom, with furniture drawn to scale so you can judge it properly. When you have a combination you like, it carries straight through to the enquiry builder.
What paper is used for printing?
Printing will be on premium glossy 200gsm photo-quality paper with an advanced waterproof coating - keeping prints clean, sharp and protected from moisture and fingerprints over time.
Can I have my print framed?
Yes, a high quality black frame can be supplied for paper prints. Other frame colours are available by request. Canvas prints come ready to hang and need no frame.
How will the prints be shipped?
Unframed paper prints will be sent in a secure rolled mailing tube. Framed prints and canvas prints will be boxed and securely packed with corner protectors.
How does the digital download work?
The high-resolution digital file will be emailed to you directly.
Do the prints come with the description of what they are?
Yes, with each print you will also receive a small printout on high quality card of its title and description, as available on the Gallery page .
Do you ship internationally?
It depends on destination and courier options. Tell me your location in the enquiry and I'll confirm what's possible.
Can I request a specific crop or aspect ratio?
Yes, in many cases I can prepare a crop that suits your chosen size. Mention it in the notes. This matters most on canvas, where the sides wrap around the wooden frame, so I will confirm the exact crop with you before printing.
What if you re-image or reprocess something I've acquired?
If I release a significantly updated version of that image, I'll contact you with the option to acquire the updated version.
Do the prints or digital file come with the watermark?
No, the image you receive (whether by print or digital file) will be without the watermark. The watermark is placed only on the images you see on the website to protect them from unauthorised download.
Can I have a calendar made from the images?
Yes this is possible. Please add it as a note in the enquiry builder. The calendar will include 12 images from the gallery (chosen at random or by your choice), each with a short description. It will also be pre-populated with key astronomical events and dates other dates and will be bound at the top to allow easy flipping through pages.
